Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Since the conception of ThreeMovieBuffs on June 2nd 2000, the three of us; Eric, Patrick and Scott Nash, have only given 8 new movies 4 stars. Are we too picky? Are great movies that rare? You decide.

Here's our accumulative list of our top 8 films so far this century in order of best to worst.

1. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

Eric - "The action scenes will awe you, but it is the characters that give this movie so much feeling."

Patrick - "In a world where the term classic gets tossed around more often than a frisbee at the beach on Memorial Day, Return of the King (along with the first two movies in the trilogy) truly deserves the title. "

Scott - "The Return of the King does satisfy on every level except one. It is far too short."

2. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring(2001)

Eric - "...with The Fellowship Of The Ring, a sword and sorcery film masterpiece has been made."

Patrick - "It is grand in scale yet intimate in character development and absolutely spellbinding throughout."

Scott - "It is also a masterpiece of movie-making and blueprint of how books should be turned into screenplays".

3. The Royal Tennenbaums (2001)

Eric - "This movie's unique theme is only matched by it's perfect cast."

Patrick - "With a script this intelligent and witty and actors this talented you can't go much wrong."

Scott - "It's somewhat rare to find a movie that can make you laugh, feel sad, and make you think."

4. Kill Bill: Vol. I (2003)

Eric - "This is Tarantino's best movie."

Patrick - "Kill Bill is bright, original and clever."

Scott - "The whole movie is over the top, its just so entertaining that who cares?"

5. Sin City (2005)

Eric - "With Sin City, film noir goes hardcore!"

Patrick - "The black and white cinematography is incredible."

Scott - "Sin City is a cross between a movie like The Maltese Falcon and Kill Bill.

6. The Polar Express (2004)

Eric - "The Polar Express will remind adults about how they felt as children at Christmas."

Patrick - "It is truly beautiful to watch."

Scott - "...I found this movie to be quite touching..."

8. Chicago (2002)

Eric - "This movie is so energetic your pulse rises just watching it."
