Orlando Bloom's and Ian McKellen's value in Hollywood can easily be assessed by how much money their recent films make. Looking at the lists below, it is plainly obvious that they stand above all others for being in movies that made the most money last year.
27 year old Orlando Bloom starred in the number two highest grossing film of the year, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl as well as appeared in the number five film, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Add the sales of DVDs and Orlando looks even more profitable. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers was the second best selling DVD of last year. Pirates of the Caribbean was number three.
Ian Mckellen has the same Lord of the Rings credit as Bloom. Besides his role as Gandalf, Ian was Magneto in X2: X-Men United. It was the 6th biggest money maker at the box office as well as the 10th biggest in DVD sales. Not bad for a 65 year old.
Both actors have more in store for their fans. Bloom will appear this year in Troy. He has just finished Haven. He starts filming Kingdom of Heaven this month. Then there is the sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean. Mckellen is currently doing stage work in Australia. He will likely reprise his role as Magneto for a third installment of X-men. However, his brightest future role hasn't even been confirmed yet, but fans are hoping that Ian will be back as Gandalf if and when Peter Jackson directs The Hobbit.
