Ewan McGregor is one hard working actor who can play any role.
It seems that every year there are one or two stars that seem to be appearing in more movies than usual. Last year there was Jude law and Ben Stiller. Each actor had their name attached to 6 different movies released in 2004. This year's over-exposed actor is the Scottish born Ewan McGregor.
Ewan is of course best known as Obi Wan Kenobi is the Star Wars series. Ewan has the best part in Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith. With Hayden Christensen straining to act dark and Natalie Portman having little more to do than whine, it left Ewan to really carry the movie. George Lucas writes terrible dialogue, but of the cast, Ewan manages to make his lines come across the best. His steady delivery reigns in this over the top line, "You were The Chosen One! It was said that you would destroy The Sith, not join them! It was you who would bring balance to The Force, not leave it in Darkness!"
Ewan studied Alec Guinness movies to play Obi Wan. He has another connection to the original trilogy though. In Revenge of the Sith, Obi Wan's call sign is Red Leader. Wedge Antilles, from the original Star Wars trilogy, is played by Ewan's uncle, Denis Lawson, who had the same call sign.
Star Wars was not Ewan's only science fiction film this year. He also did the over-directed The Island. He provided his voice for two different animated films. He is Rodney from Robots and has the lead role in Valiant. In October he can be seen in, the thriller, Stay.
Ewan McGregor is a not a one-character actor. Besides the action of the Star War films, he has done the romantic comedies Down With Love and A life Less Ordinary. He has done the dramas Trainspotting and Young Adam. He is a married father of two. Perhaps this lends to his decision to do animated films. He has signed to do another one due out next year called Gnomeo and Juliet with Kate Winslet.
What makes Ewan MacGregor even more unique as an actor is that he also sings. He has sung in A Life Less Ordinary and Down with Love. He and Nicole Kidman shocked many people by their wonderful singing in the musical Moulin Rouge. Now Ewan has signed on to play Joe Gillis opposite Glenn Close’s Norma Desmond in the musical film version of Sunset Blvd.
Ewan McGregor does not have Jude Law's looks or Hugh Grant's easy charm. However, Ewan can play roles that those guys could never pull off. Ewan McGregor is the greatest versatile actor working today.
