Dennis Quaid's has appeared in a plethora of movies. However, he has had as many failures as successes.
On November 16th, 2005, Dennis Quaid received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has often been noted for his smirk of a smile and his six pack abs, but it has been a long, hard earned road for Dennis to get to that star. A string of forgettable movies, a very public breakup and an addiction to cocaine has not slowed this actor's very prolific career.
Dennis began acting in the late 70's. His older brother Randy had already been in movies for years. In fact, one of Randy’s and Dennis’s first notable early roles were eachin a Barbra Streisand film. Randy had a small part in Whats up Doc (1972), while one of Dennis's first roles was playing Barbra’s boy toy in All Night Long, (1981).
Dennis made several notable movies in the 1980s. He appeared in the critically acclaimed The Right Stuff in 1983 and The Jerry Lee Lewis bio pic, Great Balls of Fire in 1989. He also made the forgettble Jaws 3-D (1983) and the over wrought Enemy Mine with Lou Gossett Jr in 1985. He met Meg Ryan in 1987 during the filming of Innerspace.
In the 1980's Dennis Quaid appeared in an astonishing 18 theatrical and television movies.By the early 1990's, Quaid decided to get his cocain addiction under control. Following Postcards From the Edge (1990) with Meryl Streep, Quaid took a few years off to clean up and spend time with his wife, Meg Ryan, whom he married in 1991 and their son, Jack, who was born in 1992. Quaid and Ryan divorced in 2001 in the midst of a media circus.
In 1993 Dennis Quaid returned to making movies with the appropriate film Undercover Blues with Kathleen Turner. It is about a a couple trying to continue their careers after having a baby. Quaid would venture into a fantasy/action film, Dragonheart (1996) and the drama, Far From Heaven (2002) in which he received some of the best reviews of his career. However, Quaid has made a firm mark on the family film genre. He made the remake to The Parent Trap in 1998. He made Frequency in 2000. He made The Rookie in 2002. He starred in In Good Company in 2004. He can currently be seen in the remake of Yours, Mine and Ours.
Dennis Quaid may or may not ever win an Oscar. He may not have the largest paycheck in the movie industry. He may not always get the best reviews, but how many actors have been in 25 movies in the past 12 years. Dennis Quaid is one hard working actor. Sure, some of those movies stink, but for every Flight of the Phoenix there is a Traffic. Dennis Quaid has made well over 50 movies in his 30 year career. To put that into perspective; Barbra Streisand has only made 17 movies in her 36 year movie career. Dennis Quaid's Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is more than deserved.
